Cross country skiing trails in the Lyngenfjord region, close to Tromsø

Visit Lyngenfjord has compiled information about where you will find prepared cross-country ski trails throughout the region.

During the winter season, there are several prepared cross-country ski trails in the Lyngenfjord region, most of which are prepared on a voluntary basis.

It’s also possible to go cross-country skiing outside the prepared trails. Ask your accommodation provider for local recommendations.

Ytre Lyngen

Trail Brief description Car parking
Floodlit trail Jægervatnet A 3.6 km trail suitable for classical or freestyle skiing. Relatively easy but a couple of good ascents. See more here. At the community hall. Turn right on route no. 313, just after the bridge, when you reach the lake, Jægervatnet. After approx. 1 km, the hall will be on your right.
Svensby A trail in the Svensbymarka. On sundays and during easter public holidays it is possible to buy coffee and waffles at the cabin Trollhytta. Period ca 19.3 - 10.4 At the ferry landing or Svensby Tursenter


Near Lyngseidet

Trail Brief description Car parking
Floodlit trail at Lyngseidet A trail of approx. 5 km (return) near Lyngseidet, of which roughly half is separated. There is a toilet at Skibua, the local ski cabin. Beside Skibua at the end of the housing area above Lyngseidet, or by the shooting clubhouse
Varto An 8 km circuit is prepared by the local residents’ association. From late January to late April, the association sells coffee and waffles at the Varto cabin every Sunday and during Easter. The trail is prepared during this period. Car park approx. 6 km north of Lyngseidet. Drive 4 km towards Koppangen, turn left into Vardoveien (signposted Grendehus) and drive 2 km until you reach the car park.
Furuflaten A trail up the valley, signposted from the building near the football field. Car parking by Furustua

 

Skibotn, Hatteng, Elvevoll area

Trail above Skaidi Trail approx. 4 km, halfway there is a shelter - prefect for a stop for a coffee. A nice trail for families who are looking for a shorter experience. Near the Vestersiasenter in Elvevoll. Signposted “Parkering Lyngsalpan Landskapsvernområde” from the road.
Helligskogen Trail of approx 8 km. During easter from 2.4 to 10.4 there will be an open cafe at Helligskogen Fjellstue every day from 11-15 Parking by Helligskogen Fjellstue


Manndalen, Olderdalen

Sørkjosen/Storslett area

Trail Brief description Car parking
Saga Approx. 30 km of trails, skating and classical. Check the Facebook page Skiløypeinfo i Nordreisa for info and see the map on ut.no To get to Saga, turn off the E6 at the Halti building and continue 1.2 km on route no. 352 (Kildalsveien). Car parking on the left-hand side of the road by the stadium, where the trail starts.
Krakenes trail This 10 km circuit trail is linked to the outer part of the main network at Saga. Read more about the trail here. To reach the start of the Krakenes trail, turn off the E6 at the Halti building and continue 4.3 km on route no. 352 (Kildalsveien), turn left towards Annabakkelv and continue 1 km to the bridge over the river Kildalselva. Parking bay beside the road (limited number of places).

Skjervøy

Løype Brief description Parkering
Skjervøy Trail of 5-10 km which takes you in a loop. By the football stadium, above the city centre.
