Reindeer Sledding in the Skibotn valley - day trip with the Samiway

Discover the rich heritage of the indigenous Sámi people with our reindeer experience. Journey into the Arctic wilderness and engage with traditional sami reindeer herders. Interact with our gentle reindeer, enjoy a sleigh ride and get to learn about Sámi reindeer herding culture.

After the visit with the reindeer and learning about our culture in a Sámi tent called Lávvu, you´ll get to enjoy a warm meal in their Sámi restaurant at Skibotn Hotel before heading back to tromsø.

We have both a day tour (09:00-17:30) and an evening tour (17:30-00:30)


This full day adventure includes:

Meet and get close to our kind and cozy reindeer

Plenty of opportunities to take a selfie with reindeers

Hear real stories from our life with reindeer husbandry

Learn how Sámi people catch reindeer and try your own lasso throwing skills

Try reindeer sledding (ca 15 min)

Hot drinks and Bidos (reindeer broth) served in the Sami restaurant at Skibotn Hotel

Transfer Tromsø - Skibotn (ca 2 hrs each way) - only if added upon booking. Check that the transfer from Tromsø is included in the summary on your booking confirmation


Please bring: Warm clothes (at least two layers), mittens, hat, good winter boots.


Important information about transfer go and return Tromsø: If you want transfer from Tromsø, remember to add it to your booking.

Latest meeting time and place for the transfer from Tromsø: 08:45am at the bus station at Prostneset port terminal. Look for the Arctic Route bus to Storslett. The bus departs at 09am.

Meeting time and place for the activity in Skibotn: 10:45am outside of Skibotn Hotel.

Once you arrive in Skibotn you will be meet by Sámi reindeer herder Nils.

Duration: ca 9 hours (included transfer from Tromsø 2 hours each way, if you have added the transfer)
