Ski touring long weekend by the Lyngen Alps

Imagine staying on an island in the Lyngenfjord region, with amazing ski opportunities just outside the door or just a boat trip away. Here you can enjoy the many ski tour possibilities in the Lyngen region such as Uløya, Kågen, Arnøya and the Kåfjord- and Lyngen Alps. The chances are that you will be the first to make trails in the snow.

Lyngen Outdoor Center is an ultimate outdoor destination. Here is how they present themselves: 
"Our team consists of people for whom outdoors is the way of life. We are mountain climbers, skiers, divers and anglers. We ventured with expeditions to Patagonia, Mali, Madagascar, Causacus and Tien-Szan, we climbed in the Alps, Himalayas and we even stormed K2 in winter. We are experts in our fields and so we created this place to share our knowledge and passion with you – our guests."

Based on Uløya island in the northeast part of the Lyngen Fjord, the Lyngen Outdoor Center offers a perfect base for all ski touring enthusiasst with trips on Uløya island and the mainland, as well as boat trips to neighbouring islands (Kagen, Arnøya) or the famous Lyngen Alps.

Included in the package is 3 ski tours - plan for a late departure the last day, so you can join in on the last trip. Plan on arriving in Tromsø around 17:00.

Program

Day 1: Arrival and check in 

Arrive at Uløya in the afternoon - check in and then dinner in the evening. We will talk about the plan for the upcoming days ski touring.

Day 2-3: Guided ski tours

Breakfast will be served in the restaurant. During breakfast we will also make our lunch packs for the days trip.

Enjoy a day of ski touring. You should be prepared for ski tours of 4-8 hours and 600-1400 m in height. Experience in ski touring is an advantage but not a must. It's important for us that everyone can enjoy the tours. For the more ambitious ascents, kick-turn technique is required and experience with crampons is an advantage. 

Returning to our base you have the opportunity to relax in the sauna before dinner is served in the restaurant.

Day 4: Last ski tour and departure

Breakfast will be served in the restaurant. During breakfast we will also make our lunch packs for the days trip.

We can plan for the days ski tour to be between Uløya and Tromsø, if this is wanted. Plan on arriving in Tromsø around 17:00.

About Lyngen Outdoor Centre

The base is in our comfortably furnished apartments in two houses located just 50m from the water's edge.
The apartments are comfortably equipped with everything you need for a home away from home. The kitchen is modern, clean and fully equipped with all the necessary equipment for a comfortable stay: plates, cutlery, pots, pans, coffee maker, electric kettle, oven and dishwasher. The living room is furnished with leather seating and has a traditional Norwegian fireplace. TV, DVD, and Wi-Fi (free) are all provided so you can stay connected with the outside world if you wish. In addition, there is a heated cellar that guests are welcome to use for storing skis, drying equipment/clothes and laundry facilities.

All meals will be served in our restaurant area.

About Uløya in the Lyngenfjord

There are two small villages on the island of Uløya – Havnnes on the western side and Uløybukt on the eastern side. The Lyngen Outdoor Center is situated in Uløybukt, which is home to just a few people.

The eastern side of Uløya has many vertical mountain sides, unlike the western side which is more accessible and provides skiing with an amazing view of the Lyngen Alps.

Ski touring Uløya

Uløya offers a multitude of interesting ski tours, including the most famous – The Grand Traverse of Uløya – 20 km of ridge skiing from Uløybukt to Havnnes taking in the summits of Blåtinden (1142 m), Uløytinden (1114 m) and Kjelvagtinden (1104 m). You can also choose a steep direct run down from Blåtinden right to your doorstep or take a gentle but wonderful trip up Saeteraksla (956 m) to enjoy the view.

The eastern side offers almost vertical falling walls in contrast to the western side with much gentler slopes and amazing views towards the peaks of the Lyngen Alps.

Other routes on the nearby islands (e.g. Kågen island with its spectacular massif of Store Kågtinden) and on the mainland are easily accessible by boat. 

Local transport 

To reach the surrounding mountains, we use our large and comfortable aluminium boats. We can sail to all nearby islands and the Lyngen Alps. The boat transport gives us great flexibility to choose the right summit depending on weather and snow conditions.
