Guidet vandretur til Halti, Finlands høyeste fjell - Adventure by Design

Hike up the highest mountain of Finland and learn about the history and lifestyle in this arctic region. This tour will take you to visit historically and naturally interesting places and two countries sharing the same mountain.
Opastamme myös Suomeksi!
We will start from Kilpisjärvi in Finland drive to the Norwegian side of the great Halti mountain. We drive to Norway along an old merchandise route and can visit some of the interesting historical sites on away to learn how people have lived in the past and how do they live nowadays in the arctic.
The hike we start from Guolasjavri (770hm) from where we will hike all the way up to the summit of Halti (1361hm). The first uphill is the most demanding but afterwards the rewarding views from the high open fells surround us. On this tour we will visit both peaks, on the side of Norway and Finland. They are approximately 2km away from each other and marked with the yellow cairn. The terrain is pretty demanding with rock hopping on boulders, but we will take our time, have breaks, take photos and hike up in our own pace. The lenght of the hike is approximately 14 km and we enjoy our lunch on a way.
With a guide you can learn about the arctic nature, it’s animals and flora, climate and how it is changing. You will hear about the life in the region, both today and in the past. Our guides live in the area all year around, so they know these routes and terrains as their backyard. If you want, your guide can teach you some basic survival skills as well.
Adventuring in the mountains is always weather dependent so it is good to be prepared with wind- and water repellent clothes but also be prepared to change plans according to the weather. We can also moderate the plan if the terrain feels too demanding. There are other interesting hiking possibilities at the lower areas. If it is not possible to reach the summit for some reason we can hike to the gorgeous 153 m deep canyon or visit the old Moskogaisa ore mining area at the highlands for instance.
It is possible to arrange a pick-up from Skibotn in Norway, which you can reach with a public bus. Please, contact us if this would work for you better. If you have any special requests or wish to make the tour on a specific date contact us and we will try to arrange it. All our tours are weather dependent, but in case some tours are not possible to organize on the specific day we will try to do it another day or change the plan for the day to be more suitable for the current weather conditions.
